  • Passage of Special Natural Area District legislation protecting trees

  • Worked with DEP to successfully resolve raw sewage back-up problem on Newberry Avenue and helped residents file and resolve claims with Comptroller’s Office

  • Successfully Prompted DEP to expedite Fremont Avenue Sewer Project and to add curbs to proposal;

  • Installation of Catch basins on Lincoln Avenue and Edison Street

· Successfully prompted DEP to implement and expedite installation of sewer line and installation of catch basins on North Railroad Avenue between Fingerboard Road and Grasmere Avenue to alleviate long standing flooding condition

· Successfully prompted DEP to construct a new sewer line to alleviate the long standing flooding condition at Windermere Road and Steuben Street

  • Fought to get Dalton Avenue Sewer project separated from Rockland Avenue project, as well as getting sewer project expedited once it was separated from Rockland Avenue
  • Oversaw Weed Avenue/Manila Place sewer project and worked with DDC to ensure project was completed after original contractor went bankrupt
  • Oversaw all issues pertaining to Mulberry Ave sewer project
  • Fought to have DEP extend storm sewer line at Lincoln and Baden Place to alleviate flooding at this intersection

· Worked with DDC to expedite Isabella Avenue/Flint Street Sewer Project

· Installation of seepage basins on Isabella Avenue and Riga Street

· Installation of Seepage Basins on Adelaide Avenue and Amherst Avenue

· Worked with DEP to resolve long standing ponding problem at Riedel Avenue and Park Street (New sewer line and two new basins were installed)

  • Successfully prompted DEP to implement and expedite Quintard Street Pumping Station and Sewer Project
  • Successfully prompted DEP to implement and expedite Linwood/Bionia Avenues Sewer Project
  • Successfully prompted DEP to add Hurlbert Street and Reid Avenue to South Beach Sewer Project
  • Worked with DEP to eliminate creek at Reid and Laconia Avenues and pipe into sewer line to eliminate long standing flooding condition

· Successfully prompted DEP to implement and expedite installation of catch basins on Providence Street to alleviate long standing flooding condition

· Successfully prompted DEP to install sewer line on Parkinson Avenue to alleviate long term flooding problem in the area

· Worked with DEP to get undermined catch basins on Old Town road repaired

· Ponding Problem at the main entrance of CSI corrected. Water Main had broken and was repaired

  • Allocated $2.59 million towards Staten Island University Hospital new Emergency Room project
  • Brain Tumor van funding ($23,500)
  • Involved in discussions with Administration and the Staten Island medical community on how the city can better help Staten Island
  • $181,000 for colon cancer screening equipment
  • $750,000 for Richmond University Medical Center FY09
  • $313,000 for Equipment for RUMC
  • $321,000 for Cardiac Camera for RUMC
  • $240,000 for new radiology equipment for Sea View Hospital
  • $180,000 for new buses for Sea View Hospital for Adult day care program
  • $300,000 for resurfacing of roadways at Sea View Hospital
  • SIEDC Health Conference ($50,000 in funding)
  • $257,000 in Funding for American Cancer Society.

Parks:

· POW/MIA Flag bill (Local Law 32/2003)

· Allocation $1.6 million to create New Dorp Beach Park

· Allocated $1.2 million for Greenbelt Recreation Center; and various athletic fields, such as a new soccer field at the Recreation Center

· Allocated $1.1 million for creation of Von Briesen Park;

· Allocated $300,000 for the creation of the Midland Beach Skate Park;

· Allocated $500,000 for Tennis & Basketball Courts at Greenbelt Recreation Center

· Allocated $1.2 million for the Greenbelt Soccer Field

· Allocated funding for the Midland Beach Soccer Field

· Allocated $125,000 for the Greenhouse for Native Plant Center

· Creation of Travis Friends of Abandoned Cemetery Park at Victory and Glen Street

  • Had Parks Department replace netting at the ball fields at General Douglas MacArthur Park to keep stray balls from hitting neighboring houses
  • Had curbs installed at Chapin Woods
  • Successfully prompted Parks Department to treat algae infested Cameron Lake
  • Successfully requested that Parks place asphalt in the parking lot adjacent to the Our Lady of Lourdes Church
  • Called for Parks Department to allow waterfront access and for continuation of Bike Path at New Dorp Beach
  • Successfully requested Parks to install additional signage at South Beach parking Lot and to lock the gate at closure

· Successfully prompted Parks Department to install Green streets project at Old Town Road and North Railroad

Transportation:

  • One way grids in Midland Beach

· Initiative to identify and fix faulty utility cuts

      • Successfully fought for stop sign on Cornelia Avenue at North Railroad Avenue;
      • Successfully Fought for All-Way Stop Sign at Jefferson Avenue and Husson Street;

Grant City Intersections

      • Placement of All-Way Stop Sign at Midland Avenue and Edison Street;
      • Placement of School Crossing Markings and Crosswalks at the intersection of Midland Avenue and Edison Street to allow pedestrians to get to St. Christopher’s Church and Pre-School;
      • Placement of All-Way Stop Sign on Greeley and Edison Street;
      • Addition of left turning lane on Midland Avenue at North Railroad Avenue;
      • Installation of additional left turning lane on Midland Avenue at Hylan Boulevard;
      • Placement of All-Way Stop Sign on Jefferson and Husson Streets;

Grasmere

§ Successfully prompted DOT to expedite installation of new curbs on North Railroad Avenue between Fingerboard Road and Grasmere Avenue.

§ Prompted DOT to install the “Don’t Block the Box” gridlock treatment at the intersection of Cleveland Place and Fingerboard Road.

§ Prompted DOT to install crosswalk, stop line, and stop word message at the intersection of West Fingerboard Road and Columbus Avenue.

Midland Beach

§ Worked with DOT to install Speed Limit Message signs along Greeley Avenue; Installation of sidewalk on Patterson Avenue and Lincoln Avenue

§ Placement of All-Way Stop Sign at Boundary Avenue and Lincoln Avenue

§ Successfully relocated bus stop in front of deli at 578 Midland Avenue to another location after receiving calls from merchants in the area

§ Resurfacing of Greeley Avenue.

New Dorp

· Turning Arrow at Intersection of Rockland Avenue and Richmond Road

· Placement of Traffic Light at Richmond Road and Altamont to allow residents of New Dorp Heights to exit their neighborhood safely

· Successfully fought for removal of “No Standing” signs along the Miller Field Side of New Dorp Lane Between Mill Road and Cedar Grove Avenue to allow more parking for residents

· Successfully requested that Beach Avenue be resurfaced after personally witnessing the poor road conditions

· Successfully added additional parking at the end of New Dorp Lane by removing guardrail and opening up the end of the street

· Successfully fought to have speed humps installed on Clawson Street for PS 41

· Milling and Resurfacing of Clawson Street to correct several ponding conditions along this stretch of roadway

Old Town

§ Prompted DOT to install yellow flashing light on Hylan Boulevard near the Academy of St. Dorothy

§ Relocation of bus stop in front of St. Dorothy’s to CVS to reduce traffic and improve safety at location

§ Relocation of bus stop in front of Royal Crown to SI Saving Bank to help traffic flow more efficiently

§ New street lighting on Dawson Place

§ Resurfacing of Glendale Avenue

§ Intersection improvements at intersection of Old Town Road and Hylan Boulevard

§ Prompted DOT to install crosswalk, stop line, and stop word message at the intersection of West Fingerboard Road and Columbus Avenue

Travis:

§ Widening of intersection and installation of turning bays at Victory Boulevard and Travis Avenue

§ Installation of Left Turn Signals at the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Travis Avenue

§ Resurfacing of Latimer Avenue, off Shenandoah Avenue

Willowbrook

§ Successfully prompted DOT to install a traffic light in front of PS54 at the intersection of Willowbrook Road and Sheraden Avenue

§ Successfully prompted DOT to create angled parking on Sunset Avenue to create additional parking spots at PS54

§ Successfully prompted DOT to install “Right on Red” on Forest Hill Road at Harold Street

§ Resurfacing of Forest Hill Road

§ Resurfaced South Gannon Avenue between Willowbrook Road and Martin Avenue

§ Resurfacing of Rockland Avenue between Ferndale Avenue and Forest Hill Road

Economic Development/Jobs

  • Passed Regulatory Review Legislation creating Small Business Review panel
  • Fought in budget negotiating process to eliminate the Unincorporated business tax

  • Consistently voted against property tax hikes
